When wire sawing is the right method
A diamond wire saw loops a steel cable studded with diamond beads around or through the concrete, and a hydraulic drive pulls it through the cut. Because the wire has no depth limit, it can cut sections far thicker than a wall saw or flat saw can reach.
- Thick foundations, footings and pile caps
- Piers, columns and beams
- Large openings in massive walls
- Controlled removal of large blocks for lifting out by crane
- Industrial, utility and infrastructure work
Why contractors choose it
Wire sawing produces very little vibration, which matters next to sensitive equipment or occupied space. It also leaves a clean, straight face and lets large pieces be removed whole instead of broken up in place.
What affects the price
Wire sawing is specialized and usually priced by the area of the cut face plus setup. Section thickness, reinforcement density, access for the drive unit and pulleys, and how the cut pieces will be lifted and hauled all affect cost. Core drilling is often needed first to thread the wire.
What to tell the contractor
Share the dimensions of the section, approximate thickness, whether it is reinforced, access around the cut, and how the removed pieces will come out (crane, forklift or by hand after further cutting).
